Janet Brown Opinion Research Alberta Poll: UCP 53%, NDP 34%. AP 8%

A new Alberta poll from Janet Brown Opinion Research (JBOR) was published this morning and measures voting intentions that are quite against the current: whereas EKOS and Research Co. give the UCP 4-5 points ahead of the NDP, whereas the Mainstreet Research tracker has had the UCP leading by about 9 to 10 points, this new poll gives the United Conservative Party a crunching 19 points lead over the NDP.

This poll was commissioned by Global Petroleum Show. So I am guessing readers who were opposed to the EKOS poll being commissioned by Unifor... will be okay with this one?

Nevertheless, let's take a look at the results province wide:

Let's take a look at the regional sub-samples.

Calgary

Contrary to what Mainstreet and Research Co. have published of late, JBOR measures a sizable UCP lead in Calgary. According to this polls, the UCP at 53%, more than 20 points ahead of the NDP at 39%. Such numbers would guarantee a quasi UCP sweep of the city.

Edmonton

According JBOR, the NDP leads the UCP in Alberta's capital, but by a much narrower margin than previously measured by pther pollsters. The NDP stands at 46% and the UCP at 39% in Edmonton.

Rest of Alberta

In the rest of Alberta (north, south), the UCP dominates voting intentions once again. JBOR has the UCP leading by more than 40 points

Let's not mince words: this poll is a head-scratcher. Its data is similar to what other pollsters published months ago, when the projections had Mr Kenney winning more than 70 seats in walk.

The 338 Alberta Projection will be updated tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.
